THE dry season may not be officially in but the atmosphere around us is already quite hot. It gets so hot that almost every weekend (and the much-awaited vacation time for students), the first thing that comes to mind is to go to a place where one can indulge in soaking in a body of water for as long as possible.

Of course, when you’re not immersed, wearing clothes that have light colors, with thin fabric and designs that allow air to caress the body, help a lot to cool you down.

One thing that is oftentimes overlooked or neglected is the hair. Wearing the proper cut can help keep all those tantrums away. Also, applying the appropriate colors can help minimize the heat on the head.

L’Oreal master hair colorist Jun Esma says that the 2014 summer color trend is gold and copper because these colors glow when exposed to the sun and thus reflect the heat. By the way, Jun’s salon is in Banilad.

I did not expect the four lively and vibrant hosts of ABS-CBN Cebu’s Mag-TV Na! Sunday morning show to also possess entrepreneurial spirits, aside from the good looks, wit and energy, among others,

Phoebe Kaye Fernandez, Jonathan Cimafranca, Borgie Cabigas and Carole Monique de Leon, with some crew and staff members, have recently organized the Self Efficiency Learning Formation Institute or, in short, Selfi.

Its first project is Mag-Selfi Na Ta workshops for summer. These involve modelling, make-up, TV hosting, acting, dancing and other forms of visual arts.

The four will personally mentor their students and will be assisted by Cebuano friends who are experts in their respective fields.

For the make-up sessions including basics in day, night and experimental make-up, Selfi will collaborate with one of the country’s premier make-up brand, Ever Bilena.

The workshops will be held in one of the audio-visual rooms of the Southwestern University and will start immediately after the Holy Week.

Speaking of summer, here’s another treat. Ayala Center Cebu’s A Happy Colorful Summer campaign was launched last weekend with the mall-wide graduation sale and the mini-show of acoustic singer and Asap Sessionista Princess Velasco at the Terraces.

The singer also launched her new acoustic album that night and had a meet-and-greet photo op with her fans who bought copies of her album.

The following day had singer-actress Nikki Gil regaling mall patrons with her soothing voice. A Lego Fun Day featuring a Lego Batman free movie screening, inflatables, bubble show and arts and crafts were held on the third day.

The summer treat does not end there though. Workshops for kids in taekwondo, fashion modelling, jazz and contemporary dance, and art classes will also be held starting April 7.

Great music from some of the best musical acts will fill the summer air as international Christian rock band Jars of Clay, the country’s darling MYMP, the online royal family Team Kramer, the lovely voices of Princess, Zia, Karylle and Isabelle, the R&B princess Kyla and Summer Beats are all set to make this summer truly memorable and star-studded.

Outdoor movie experience will also be offered with feature films from Magnavision Movies and the Garden French Film Festival. Fashion exhibits and shows will also be mounted by the Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters and the mall’s leading retailers.

Workout sessions in zumba, metafit, capoiera ronda, hula-hoop, pilates and yoga will also be offered to achieve and maintain that beach-ready body. Then to round up the summer activities, a mall-wide Back to School Sale from May 30 to June 1 back to back with Adventure Time international show will be held.

These and more will surely make everyone’s summer this year something to look forward to and to be remembered by. Betcha!
