Dr. Suga Sotto Yuvienco was looking much younger than her 95 years during her birthday dinner at the Manila Room of Marco Polo Plaza. Only daughter Minnie organized a musical evening featuring the Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra who dished out beautiful music of the yesteryears. In attendance were the USA-based sons: Jingboy from New York with wife Julie; Eugene from Tampa, Florida (wife Baby could not make it); and Doc Christopher with fiancee Tami from Cape Corral, Florida. Not around was was youngest son, Jose Mari (also in the USA), whose busy schedule wouldn't allow a trip home at this time of the year. It was a lovely party attended by relatives and close friends of Doc Suga and the family. (My colleague Chinggay U will give a more detailed coverage in a future issue.)

Fr. Rafael Borromeo S.J. was honoree at a merienda-cena organized by devoted sister Zelia to celebrate his 83rd birthday. The afternoon affair at the family-owned Montebello Villa Hotel began with Holy Mass officiated by Fr. Ramon Mores S.J. of the Sacred Heart Parish.

A special feature during the gathering was a slide presentation of the highlights of Fr. Raf's life from his first Holy Communion to his work as a Jesuit priest, painstakingly prepared by Zelia.

Coming all the way from Subic to greet Fr. Raf was Maribi Mapa Garcia who says that Fr. Raf is her favorite retreat master and that it was he who has inspired her to establish a "Holy Land" in Subic. The project features life-sized statues depicting the stations of the cross and the mysteries of the rosary.

It was a quickie visit here for Los Angeles-based Eugene Cheng of Unilink Travel to touch base with his Cebu connections. He is the favorite tour operator in the USA of our local travel agents. They lost no time in treating him to a yummy lunch buffet of native favorites in Pino.

For Geny Jakosalem who lives in New York, coming home always means an extended vacation to link up with relatives and close friends. She hosted a post Valentine dinner at the Silver Hills home of her brother Ferdie who with wife Corie rolled out the red carpet for the guests. It was wonderful seeing old friends from way back when, among them Hector and Menchita Veloso who came for a visit from their home in Baltimore, Maryland. They were houseguests of Dr. Geñing and Dr. Hopee Solano who were their neighbors when they lived here in Beverly Hills.

And speaking of post Valentine dinners, lady lawyer Jeanette Japzon, corporate communications manager of Cebu Holdings, Inc., invited media friends for dinner at the Blue Elephant on the topmost floor of AppleOne Tower at Cebu Business Park. It was a sing-a-long affair participated in by Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI) president Francis 'Frank Sinatra' Monera.

Dexter and Jecille Ann Revillas now of Brisbane, Australia, timed their visit during the Sinulog season so their children Tara and Trent could experience what the Sto. Niño fiesta is all about. Having grown up here in our Queen City, Dexter and Ann made sure that their children would be familiar with the Cebuano culture.
