THE rays of summer are here yet again. The season for beaches, sundaes and flip-flops, it’s the time of year when every single day spells fun, the kind that’s unruffled yet vibrant, laid back yet loud. Wardrobe-wise, it’s also the time to let go of the norms and dress in ways to capture the season’s essence.

Yves Camingue’s latest collection, craftily called “Jerouxalem,” redefines how to look chic under the summer sun. A daring reinvention of traditional garments used in the ancient city, the collection features an eclectic fusion of classic cuts and contemporary hues.

“Modesty mixed with personality is the name of the game,” Yves said. His designs show hints of inspiration from age-old styles such as the straying silhouette of an abaya, the bottom hem of a thawb and the layering of a bisht.

“The 90s heyday of Calvin Klein and Helmut Lang also inspired the simplicity of the shapes, evident in the spaghetti straps, which is a key element, and bias-cut separates,” he explained. Yves played in mainly shades of beige and off-white, and then threw in chartreuse and tame pink to liven it up.

The collection’s distinctive loose silhouettes and use of lightweight fabric also allow room for movement, making it ideal garbs comfortable enough for casual beach getaways and at the same time, effortlessly chic for glamorous summer soirees.

“Destroyed, besieged and attacked several times, ancient cities including Jerusalem have survived,” Yves said. “I wanted that effect on the clothes—with layers and layers of lightness, and with skewed angles yet still looking serene.”
