Utzurrum: Anniversary and birthday dinners-A A +A
Wednesday, January 29, 2014
THE ides of November is always celebrated by restaurateur, entrepreneur and proprietor Anthony Ballreich as his natal day. But this time, there was something else to mark—the anniversary of his well-known, popular and professionally-managed Thai resto, Siam, at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
Our genial host was the celebrator himself, beaming with the aura of success as he flitted from table to table, thanking all who had responded to his invitation. With him were his prized trio of Thai Chefs.
As the media feasted on a special birthday menu concocted by the host, heaps upon heaps of praise were showered on him, for such flavorful, tasty and meticulously—spiced dishes! Dessert and drinks were typically Thai!
After the blowing of his birthday candles, Anthony had another announcement: “Don’t forget Blue Elephant, next month.” Tell you more about this later. Many happy returns, Anthony!
It was also an anniversary, their sixth year, for Casa Escaño along Juana Osmeña St., during which they launched their sumptuous, genuine, all-Spanish menu, at a dinner buffet.
On hand to welcome guests were proprietors, Jimmy Escaño, chief executive officer of Jedco, brother Tommy, and their families, and culinary consultant Chona Escaño Bernad. Also rolling out the red carpet was PR girl, charming Aneth Galoy.
Small wonder then, that the buffet table had a kilometric queue—the menu. Titled “Lola’s Favorite Spanish Dishes,” it read: Pavada Soup; Pancit ni Maxi, homemade noodles oozing with tasty smoothness; chicken canalones, lengua estofada, callos; Lola Mena Escaño’s a la bacalao; and their well-kept secret, special Spanish fried rice.
Guests kept pouring in as a live band rendered pleasant “To-dine-To” music. The better to savor and enjoy these fabulous dishes. Ole! Viva Escaño.
