MISS Cebu 2014 marks the pearl anniversary of this highly anticipated beauty pageant, which for the past 30 years has celebrated Cebuana beauty and intelligence. The pageant is a prestigious affair showcasing the talent of Cebuano designers; no fewer than 22 of them created pieces especially for the Miss Cebu candidates to wear during their pre-pageant events and on coronation night.

In the opening sequence of coronation night, candidates introduced themselves in black and white fun wear by Rei Escario, Mique Yapching, Alejandro Godinez, Humberto Villegas, Peewee Senining and Brian Aloquin. This was inspired by the reinvention of Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld that took place in the 80’s, the decade which Miss Cebu began, then known as Miss Cebu Tourism.

The second segment of Evening Shimmers showed off the creations of Yvonne Quisumbing, William Manahan, Protacio and Edwin Ao. Their urban cocktail outfits in silk lamé and other metallic and glazed fabrics were inspired by the iridescence of the mother of pearl.

For the evening gown portion called Luster, the glamorous dresses were done in four shades of the pearl. Candidates No. 1 to 3 Rhodora Marie Alayon, Crystal Star Aberasturi and Hannah Marie Gore wore shades of gray created by William Manahan, Albert Arriba and Oj Hofer. Candidates No. 4 to 6 Ayn Ilya Ingking, Margret Tacy Manalop and Jennifer Rose Montecillo were dressed in shades of white by Marichu Tan, Jun Escario and Harley Ruedas. Jennifer Rose Montecillo, Cheriemel Diane Muego and Grace Anne Yap wore shades of rose as candidates 7 to 9 in Philipp Tampus, Wendell Quisido and Arcy Gayatin. Rounding out the lineup of 12 candidates were Eva Psychee Patalinjug, Natasha Angela Manuel and Pearlyn Hortelano donning shades of champagne by Ditas Rodriguez, Ren Manabat and Dino Lloren.

Cheriemel Diane Muego was crowned Miss Cebu 2014 at the end of the evening. Throughout the glittering production, the pageant portrayed Cebuana beauty and character. But every year, it is also an event that exhibits the best of Cebuanos in taste and talent, including fashion and design. As with Cebuano ingenuity, Miss Cebu can only get better as the decades go by.
