MERMAIDS are beautiful and mysterious creatures, as depicted in popular stories like Disney’s The Little Mermaid based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale or, locally, in Dyesebel. How many have dreamed of becoming a mermaid, too?
Becoming “part of that world” is now possible at Crimson Resort and Spa in Mactan, which recently launched Mermaid Class as one of its recreational activities.
The lessons are given by the Philippine Mermaid Academy headed by Normeth Preglo, who teaches proper strokes, breathing, kicking and maneuvering through the water with a fish tail.
The activity does require good swimming skills and also serves as a challenging workout. The classes are conducted in the resort pool, as open water is too challenging for beginner “mermaids.” For those who just want to don the fish tail for
show, photo sessions are available.
Mermaid photo sessions are P1,100 for 15 minutes, while Mermaid Class is P1,900 for two hours inclusive of a photo session. Anyone five years and older can participate in the class.
Mermaid Class is open daily to both checked-in and day-use guests from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with prior reservations of at least an hour before the desired schedule.
