Perfect pasalubong-A A +A
Friday, January 17, 2014
THE city is now packed with visitors and tourists from Manila and probably as far as Milan, ready to party for Sinulog. As dutiful Cebuanos, it’s our job to inform them or accompany them on places to go, fun stuff to do and what nice things they can bring back home. There’s always good old lechon, but here are some other pasalubong ideas that people will enjoy giving or receiving that are more distinctly Cebuano than a keychain or refrigerator magnet. All of these are locally made, and are easy to carry around or pack in a travel bag.
This stylish neon orange clutch bag is made from hand-loomed Kantarines fabric from the Anthill Abra Weaving Community.

It’s a known fact that Cebu produces some of the best and sweetest mangoes in the world, but these can be heavy and prone to bruising if hand-carried on a plane. Dried mangoes have also been around for a while, but for a more gourmet Cebuano experience, try these chocolate-dipped ones in dark or white chocolate.
A cute souvenir to commemorate a Sinulog visit, while supporting the community organization Hand Crafters of Mary Enterprise (HOME Mothers).

It’s hard to have just one of these crisp and delicate cookies. A quick Google search will show more than one website of people confessing their obsession with this particular variety of lace cookies, and proclaim that these are “to die for.” Try them in mint, or semi-sweet, white or dark chocolate and keep them in a cool place or better yet, refrigerated.
It’s likely that at least one of your friends has asked where they can buy this Cebuano-made sound amplifier.
LoudBasstard can be bought in SM or at the pre-departure area in the airport. The brand has also released a new line of sleek wooden mobile phone cases.
