IT'S the third day of the month of fiestas and flowers. For devotees of the Blessed Mother Mary, it’s the time of the year when those beautiful blooms are brought in front of her icon as offering in the presence of cute and lovable angels. It’s a beautiful sight and a touching experience.

Even before the month of April ended, Gaisano Bogo already announced that for its Fiesta Sale (the town of Bogo will celebrate its fiesta on the 27th, if my memory serves me right) on the 19th, its celebrity guests are Kapamilya stars Maricar Reyes and Carlo Aquino.

Some E-Group members had a personal chat with Carlo a few weeks ago when he came as celebrity guest of Rosemarie Gaisano for another store promo.

It’s been a while since I last saw and talked with Maricar in another mall in Lapu-Lapu City. She was cautious and a little aloof at that time. Hopefully she’ll be more relaxed and friendly this time.

Incidentally, Maricar is now in an engagement stage with crooner Richard Poon. Definitely, her relationship with the singer will be a topic of interest.

Some E-Group members personally witnessed Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino receive the honors of being the grand winners of Protégé: The Battle for The Big Artista Break at the GMA-7 complex late last year.

They were understandably shy and awkward then but in just a little over five months, they have started to exhibit their star factors and being comfortable in the presence of the media.

They are part of the cast of GMA-7’s newest primetime series Love and Lies, which visited Cebu recently. Bela Padilla, Michelle Madrigal and Sid Lucero were with them.

King Anthony Perez of the University of the Philippines – Cebu is one of the recipients of the GMA Network Excellence Award this year (the rest are from partner schools in other parts of the country).

King took up masscom and had his internships in Cebu’s top print and broadcast outlets. He looks up to Kara David, Allan Domingo and Atty. Rose Verzosa and also looks forward to meeting Malou Mangahas and Cheche Lazaro.

He plans to apply as a reporter of GMA-7 Cebu before (or while) taking up law.

Most of the judges in the recent quest for the Kadaugan sa Mactan festival queen or Reyna Bulakna were one in saying that choosing the best among the 13 candidates was a very tough job.

First reason was, all the candidates were beautiful, shapely and graceful. They had to display their terpsichorean talent being the lead dancer of the contingent they represent in the actual Rampada – Kadaugan Street Party held the following day.

Second reason was their exposures were so brief and in a showdown format thus making us judges crane our necks for a better view of all the contestants. But just like any other competition, a winner eventually emerges and she’s the one from Barangay Pajo, Ivy Salarda, who displayed gait, grace and poise despite the challenge posed by her enormous costume and headdress.

Of all the many performers, it was the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla whom I was personally expecting to see that night in the first anniversary show of M-Talent Events & Promotions of Aida “Angging” Patana held at the Pacific ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino last Saturday.

It was because it has been a long time since I saw her perform live onstage.

Unfortunately and ironically, she was one of the remaining performers whom I sorely missed (the others were Jaya and Erik Santos).

I also wanted to see if Noel Coleta, whom I last saw when he came for a raffle draw as celebrity guest of Rosemarie Gaisano months back, had improved in the singing department.

Unfortunately, my body was already complaining when Enrique Gil mounted the stage. The Cebuano matinee idol started his act a few minutes towards midnight.

With so many performers, the show became rather too long. The fashion show’s pacing was slow and dragging.

Oh, Joy Viado’s number in which she “murdered” the Bee Gee’s song by replacing the
first two words of To Love Somebody with the Visayan term for a woman’s genitals was received with mixed reactions.

Was she inebriated when she went up the stage for her act? Except for these few hitches, An Evening With The Stars was able to keep most of the audience glued to their seats but I made my graceful exit. More power, M-Talent Events & Promotions!
