Meanwhile it is all systems go for the city’s Sinulog Grand Parade (another legendary celebration) set for Sunday, the 20th.

After a brief hiatus, the Austrian consulate in Cebu has re-opened with the appointment of Julie Alegrado Vergara as honorary consul for the Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan. A worthy successor of her Dad, Austrian Consul General Arcadio “Dodong” Alegrado, Julie received the Exequatur from Austrian Ambassador Wilhelm Donko.

The celebration was a cocktail affair at the Marco Polo Plaza. It was also an occasion for Ambassador Donko to convey his country’s appreciation to the former Austrian Consul General Dodong Alegrado, who served as an exemplary Austrian consul for so many years.

For her part, Consul Julie A. said it was an honor to serve as a link between Austria and the Philippines and she was grateful for the trust and confidence of the Austrian government. She promised to do her best to fill in her Dad’s “big shoes.” There is no doubt that she will, after all she is her father’s daughter!

Blue was the color of the night at the Blu Turns Two party of Radisson Blu Hotel on the occasion of its second anniversary. It was truly a musical evening to remember with performances from soprano Rachelle Gerodias, tenor Erwin Lumauag and the Mandaue Children and Youth chorus.

Playing gracious hostess was SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. president Elizabeth Sy in tandem with Radisson Blu Hotel GM Lyle Lewis. Very much around too was EVP-SM Hotels & Conventions Rey Villar.

By the way, there's Sugbu Sulog buffet till the 20th at the Feria in celebration of the Sinulog week. A new Chinese lauriat menu is also available with Chinese chefs taking charge.

Ongoing at Cafe Marco of Marco Polo Plaza is Sugbusog 2013: Street Food Classics, an extensive native buffet offering a variety of the best-loved Cebu street food. Also featured are typical Cebuano fare from the family recipes of food consultant Jessica Avila. Check out this once-a-year special of Marco Polo Plaza.
