THE United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country that knows no cap in almost everything good under the sun. Known to the world as a country of superlatives - tallest and highest building, as well as the biggest mall, it is composed of the seven emirates, namely: Abu Dhabi (the capital), Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah. It also boasts of a varied number of nationalities that come to reside and work. One of the more than 180 nationalities attracted to this rich gulf country is the people from an archipelagic country of the Philippines.
People from the Philippines, professional and non-professional alike, flock to Dubai (the most popular amongst the seven emirates) to work and operate their own businesses. Filipinos are close-knitted families. To them, life means family. Once settled, they invited their family members over to the UAE. Because of the best things the rich gulf country can give back to its expatriate community who toil and labor for its development, many chose to work and stay. Statistics has it that the Filipinos occupied the top 10 slot in the UAE's total expat populace.
These happy people from the Philippines are people who love to party. Culturally speaking, Filipinos love meet-ups with their fellow "kabayans" (compatriots). Those meet-ups are never complete without a wide array of food and drinks over the dinner table, plus the upbeat and sentimental songs they would sing their hearts out over the karaoke. From those gatherings, various groups are born. Groups that are of different advocacies and passion sprouted from all corners of the UAE in order to serve its fellow countrymen, as well as people who shared the same vision. One of these bona fide groups is the United Cebuanos-UAE. This group is formed with the aim of CEBU in mind. Not literally but to develop a C-E-B-U culture to their "kabayans" in the UAE. C- camaraderie, E-engagement in social activities via the Filipino community, B-business opportunities and collaborations, U-unselfish service to fellow countrymen.
In keeping to its aim and in communion with Dubai's vision to be always the first in everything, the United Cebuanos-UAE, has decided to bring the mother of all festivals from the Philippines, the Sinulog Festival. The first ever of its kind is now alive with all its colors and splendors, fun and surprises right in our very eyes here in Dubai, UAE with its theme: ONE BEAT, ONE DANCE, ONE VISION.
Dubbed as the Sinulog sa UAE 2013, the event is not only meant for the Cebuanos (people from Cebu) or the Visayans (people from the Visayas and Mindanao Area of the Philippines), but also for the Filipino community.
Through the Sinulog sa UAE 2013, the United Cebuanos-UAE has served all its four aim of not only bringing "CEBU" to the UAE but giving "CEBU" culture to its members and community. (PR)
