Picpa Cebu inducts officers

THE Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Picpa) Cebu Chapter held its past presidents’ night and induction ceremonies at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino last July 12, in line with the celebration of the Annual Accountancy Week under the theme “Leap and Beat the Odds.”

Lourdes O. Cambonga, PICPA Cebu president, opened the event before the honoring of PICPA Cebu’s past presidents from its beginnings in the 1950s up to the present.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce President Ma. Teresa B. Chan, keynote speaker of the event, stressed the vital role of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in the nation’s economic growth.


Chan talked about the the challenges that the accountants in the Philippines have to face during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) integration in 2015.

She also led the induction of new Picpa Cebu Officers.

To officially hand over the presidency, outgoing president Arnold P. Supilanas turned over the symbolic gavel to Picpa Cebu’s new president for the fiscal year 2014 – 2015, Ipher Q. Tabañag.

Tabañag then led the induction of PICPA committee chairpersons, co-chairs and members.

Joel Tan-Torres, chair of the Board of Accountancy, emphasized the importance of cooperation among leaders and members. He encouraged the newly inducted Picpa officers and committee chairpersons and members to continue supporting the programs and activities of Picpa.

Tita A. Caluya, Picpa national president and Ma. Socorro O. Lozano, Bureau of Internal Revenue LTDO chief also attended the event. The night ended with remarks from Dennis A. Mendoza, VP membership development head. (PR)
