NOTING the confidential nature of the records they keep of their taxpayers, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 13 has built a separate structure solely for the keeping of records.
BIR Revenue Region 13 Director Hermeno Palamine said the Document Processing Division will soon be located at the back of the BIR-13 office and will be heavily-guarded to ensure only employees of the division are allowed entry.
Palamine said only the regional director and the assistant regional director can enter the building without permission from the division head. Others will need to secure authorization from the chief of the division.
He said the Document Processing Division holds all the data they have on taxpayers, which is why they felt the need to place it in a more secured location.
Currently, the DPD is in the same building as the rest of the regional and Cebu City North Revenue District, which Palamine said makes it vulnerable to those who might want to access a taxpayer’s records without proper authority, even if these records have already been digitized.
“We want to safeguard the confidentiality of these records. We can’t guarantee the safety of these records if just anyone can enter the office,” he explained.
The new office has an area of 350 square meters and a project cost of P20 million.
Construction began a few months ago and is expected to be ready by November.
Palamine assured that this is just one of the programs his office is implementing to assure taxpayers of their convenience and peace of mind.
He cited the e-filing and payment system that many of their corporate clients embrace as one of the convenient options available.
He hopes more taxpayers will file their taxes electronically and make things easier for their staff and lessen the queues at their offices when the deadlines for the filing of taxes approach. He urged taxpayers to visit their office or website to learn more about the agency’s e-services.
