Mitsubishi dealer to put up P200M service center in SRP

MITSUBISHI Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) through its Cebu authorized dealer Fast Autoworld Philippines Corp. (FAPC) will open a bigger showroom and service center that will serve Metro Cebu and southern towns starting early next year.

FAPC and MMPC officials held the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for a P200-million facility on a 10,000-square-meter lot in the South Road Properties, near the University of Cebu Maritime Education Training Center.

FAPC Business Manager Ben Novo said the SRP showroom and service center will replace the existing 1,800-square-meter facility they have on N. Bacalso Ave. in Mambaling, Cebu City.


Novo projected that with the opening of the SRP branch, FAPC’s sales will continue to grow.

“With this new branch, we will become more accessible to everyone,” Novo said. He added that the showroom will probably double its current number of 20 employees.

FAPC sold 3,800 cars last year, according to MMPC Marketing Division executive vice president Junya Masuda in a separate interview.

Masuda added that MMPC has exhibited 20 percent growth in sales in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year. “We expect that this growth will continue throughout this year,” he said.

MMPC’s plans for growth include opening more Mitsubishi branches in the Philippines, which has 46 at present, two of them in Cebu. Apart from Mambaling, the other branch is in Mandaue.

Masuda said that the company is considering plans to open five to six Mitsubishi branches in a year.

MMPC, which maintains a manufacturing facility in Cainta, Rizal, produced around 16,000 cars last year.

Masuda also disclosed that by early next year, the company will start their operations in the newly acquired 20-hectare manufacturing facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where Ford Motor Co. Philippines used to operate.

The company’s production facility in the country manufactures the Mitsubishi Adventure, L300 and Lancer models.

To further support the growth of the country’s automotive industry, Masuda suggested that the government offer more incentives to car manufacturers.

He hopes that in terms of car production, the Philippines can follow Thailand, currently the production hub of the top car manufacturers in the world.

Cars produced in Thailand are distributed not only in Asia but worldwide, while the Philippines, in the case of Mitsubishi, only produces for its own market.

Masuda said one of the factors in Thailand’s success are the incentives offered to manufacturers.

“Manufacturing in the Philippines is sometimes very difficult because the incentives (tax, duties) are different in other countries… We are expecting to be supported by the government. (This is) necessary for existing manufacturers to continue to manufacture,” said Masuda.
