Monday, March 24, 2014
THE rising number of foreigners who want to learn English has prompted a young Cebuano couple, Jurine and Jim Ruperto, to diversify their IELTS review center to teaching online ESL (English as a Second Language).
They said the ESL program will address the growing demand for business English coaching for professionals from non-English-speaking countries.
“While the conversational English (course) is also profitable, we see a growing demand in the aspect of business English in the midst of the growing economy. We are targeting young professionals across non-English speaking countries to avail
themselves of our ESL services,” said Jurine.
The couple, both former call center agents, assumed the operation of ACE IELTS Review Center when they bought the company where they worked as part-time teachers. They now have two review centers in Mandaue City and on General Maxilom Ave. in Cebu City.
They plan to introduce the ESL service next month, Jurine said.
The Philippines has been identified as one of the high-quality and affordable ESL destinations in Asia, with English spoken and understood by 93.5 percent of Filipinos, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
The agency said ESL has become part of the structured tour package, where participants get to see the beautiful sceneries of the Philippine countryside and immerse themselves in the local culture.
As for its IELTS review services, Jim announced they will now offer online services to capture a wider market.
Number two in 2012
He said tapping the Internet will help them reach out to more clients who want to avail themselves of their review services anytime, anywhere.
IELTS, he added, is not only a requirement for professionals who want to land jobs in English-speaking countries but also for Filipinas who want to join their fiancés abroad and other prospective migrants.
The IELTS is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by Cambridge English Language Assessment, the British Council and IDP Education Pvt. Ltd., and was established in 1989.
ACE IELTS Review Center was chosen as a partner of IDP-Australia and awarded as the number two IELTS review center in the Philippines in 2012.
