AFTER the successful launch of Choobi Choobi, a native restaurant in Parkmall last year, Cebuano chef Constantine Tanchan on Saturday opened upscale restaurant Flavors by Tanny, his second venture in the food business.
Flavors by Tanny offers local and international dishes. It is located in Parkmall, just below Choobi Choobi restaurant.
Tanchan, who said his passion for food stemmed from his culinary travels, invested P4 million to set up the business. He considered this new venture his “personal passion” as it is the fusion of personal favorites from various cuisines he has tried here and abroad.
“Flavors has a freestyle menu. While this term might be new in Cebu, it is now being used in Manila and around the world. It represents restaurant menus that are not limited to a specific cuisine but showcases the chef’s own favorites based on different styles of food,” said Tanchan.
Eighty percent of the food served at the restaurant are Asian dishes, while the remaining 20 percent are Western dishes.
Tanchan said they position Flavors as an affordable upscale family dining venue. “We wanted to give Cebuanos an alternative to the high cost of dining,” he said.
Tanchan said the restaurant is dedicated to using all-natural ingredients as much as possible. His family owns a farm where they grow organic vegetables.
Industry players said business prospects for food are looking bright this year with Filipino consumers shifting to a healthier, organic and more traditional diet.
Amid the stiff competition in the food business, Tanchan remains aggressive in setting up more food establishments.
This year, he plans to open another food brand, Sugbaholics, a casual dining restaurant that mainly serves grilled dishes. Its first branch will open next month within the Capitol area, while the second outlet is still under negotiation.
He will also open a yakiniku and shabu-shabu restaurant at the roofdeck of Choobi Choobi by May and will open another branch of Choobi Choobi in the Cebu Business Park this year.
Tanchan welcomes the possibility of opening Choobi Choobi and Sugbaholic to franchisers but he said he should have at least three to four company-owned outlets and perfect the system before opening it up for franchising.
Tanchan’s food businesses are operating under Choobi Choobi Flavors Corp.
