MASS housing developer 8990 Housing Development Corp. signed an agreement with PLDT Home yesterday to equip its homeowners with the telco’s fiber optics facilities.

8990 Deca Homes vice president for construction and engineering Alexander Ace S. Sotto said during the contract signing yesterday at Urban Deca Homes-Tipolo in Mandaue City that the developer’s partnership with PLDT will provide homeowners living in 8990 projects in Cebu an “Internet-ready facility and more” in their homes.

“We made some alterations (in the design) so that once PLDT installs the facilities, it can provide a better connection than other (telco) providers,” Sotto said, referring to 8990’s ongoing condominium project the Urban Deca Homes.

PLDT VP and head of Home marketing support Raul Alvarez said the partnership is not just limited to voice and broadband services but also to other multi-media products.

Fast connection

Alvarez said PLDT wil be installing fiber optics in Ultra Deca Homes and other 8990 projects in Cebu to provide homeowner subscribers with “very fast connection speed” that will allow seamless streaming of high-definition movies and other high-bandwidth multi-media services. Anna Palac of PLDT Home marketing media said the connection can reach to up to 100 megabits per second (mbps), which is 10 times the average connection speed.

“We are building the facilities to make them connected and to make them future-ready,” Alvarez said, emphasizing the importance of connectivity, particularly broadband, today.

He said broadband is now the third utility after water and power.

Sotto affirmed this in saying that buyers of 8990 projects would initially ask if their houses are “Internet-ready.” He said that with the recent partnership with PLDT, they can now offer what the customers need.

In the first quarter of this year, the installation of fiber optics in Urban Deca Homes and some identied Deca Homes projects will be completed, said Sotto. Homeowners who are interested to avail themselves of the fiber connection can just directly apply as PLDT subscriber and the facilities are already in place.

PLDT has already partnered with 67 developers nationwide, 13 of which are from Cebu. These developers, according to Alvarez, are scattered in different segments, with some developing high-end projects while others are focusing on affordable housing.

“The main product of Deca Homes is affordable housing and we think that PLDT has products that are fit to the same market. They also have scales that are affordable,” Sotto said.

Next week, Alvarez said PLDT will launch the TVolution, which he described as a “small yet powerful device that can turn an ordinary TV to a smart TV.”

“PLDT is a multi-media company; we are not just in communication, we are now in content,” he said.
