VETERAN playmaker Totsie Daitol decided to let his two siblings take the cudgel for him on the rugged court.

The father’s decision to focus on coaching instead was aptly rewarded as 2AB Design defeated Pims Tailoring, 77-71, on Tuesday night’s deciding Game 3 to win the 2015 Auto Planet-Dyno Cup basketball tournament at Barangay 24’s covered court here.

With barely a minute left in the fourth and final quarter, Daitol’s oldest son Longlong -- who replaced him on the point position -- has shaken tournament MVP Nofrance Solidum off the dribble for a step-back jumper to give the Designers a 2-point lead. A Pims Under Bulldogs turnover gave Longlong another chance to play one-on-one with his defender at same spot, or just at centercourt from near of the freethrow line.

This time around, however, Longlong chose to pass the ball to his younger brother Janjan who was left wide-open for a perimeter basket from the baseline.

A bit frozen Mark Revilla then hurriedly lobbed a 3-point try at the turn that failed to hit the rim, signaling a clear victory for the wards of Engr. Arnel Baba who lost in the opener of the best-of-3 finals.

“After those two unanswered back-to-back conversions, nakaingon ko nga hayag na ang kadaugan,” later said Marvin Neri, who after contributing just 7 and 5 points each in Game 1 and Game 2, finally found his bearing in the rubber match to lead 2AB scorers with 18 markers.

Iligan City pride Ranran Bantawig, 2AB’s top rebounder and defender, had 16 in the game as Longlong Daitol and Nicolei Quintos added 15 and 11 apiece.

“Wala na ko nag-mind sa individual award. Safety first sa depensa gyod akong gihunahuna kay Game 3 wala nay ugma,” Bantawig told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

2AB waxed hot early behind Neri’s 11-point first quarter effort that saw the Designers trying to maintain a twin-digit lead. But when the mode of play turned into a slambang race of speed, the Under Bulldogs managed to charge back even leading by one in the exciting third quarter with Arman Bajao, Thirdie Dela Cruz, Charles Abada and "Sakuragi" Artajo combining for 18 points.

The pair of Rolly Ampong and Solidum sustained Pims’ uprising in the payoff period with their own total of 12 when Totsie Daitol’s heir apparent elected to take matters into his hands.

“Sige ko’g encourage kay Longlong sa bench to initiate offense kay sige lang siya’g pasa. At least, iyang na prove nga maka-deliver gyod siya,” later shared Andit Sacabin, one of the Auto Planet tourney’s past MVPs.
