WILL there be Game 3?

The 7 CVL and Makahambus teams try to go for a clincher when the semifinal matches of the 2014 Cagayan de Oro Mason Inter-Lodge basketball tournament resume here tonight at Camp Evangelista gym in Barangay Patag.

On Tuesday’s opener of their best-of-3 series, the 7 CVL edged CVL, 54-51 while Makahambus whipped the top-seeded Camicosi, 61-50 to inch closer to the finals.

“Sayang kaayo ang 6-1 record sa elimination round kon dili makabawi,” shooting guard `Baby James’ Abucejo told his Camicosi teammates after the ego-tripping loss.

Fueled by the productive numbers of Fiscal Alfonso Vicente, the slow starting CVL strung up victories late in the elimination round and quarterfinals to make it to the big-4 round. But it takes another fiscal from the opposing team to snap CVL’s blistering run.

With less than a minute left, Fiscal Isagani Ravidas received a kick-out pass from a driving Ian Ang in tight situation to connect the 3-point dagger that pushed CVL’s narrow escape.

“Without a doubt, he’s (Fiscal Ravidas) our game hero tonight,” said Cass Navales who topscored 7 CVL with 21 markers.

In the nightcap, Abucejo scored a game-high 28 points laced with six treys. But the monstrous effort apparently went for naught as the 14-man Makahambus came up ready and seething with fire all-night long, even leading by as much as 15 points.

The big fella Michael Chan was simply Camicosi’s headache in the low-post area. But the relatively small and chubby guard Mark Chang was the “lasting puzzle” Camicosi failed to find an answer in Game 1.

The scores:

7 CVL 54—Navales 21, Ang 11, Ravidas 9, Otacan 9, Bago 4, Abbu 0, Abellanosa 0.

CVL 51—Vicente 17, Alinas 15, Galera 10, Duran 5, Capul 4, Jatico 0, Walter 0, Gaccion 0, Elizaga 0.

2nd game
