NOT even the picturesque environs of Camiguin Island could take the competitive fire of Rupert Ohrelle Tortal of Surigao City.

Fresh from ending the five-leg title-streak of Brent Signmond Cortes in the Cagayan de Oro leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Northern Mindanao series Age-Group Tennis Tournament, the avenging Tortal were at it again.

This time, Tortal drubbed Ashton Benne Villanueva of Ozamiz City in two sets, 4-2, 4-2 in the finals to win anew the unisex 10-under plum of the Camiguin leg concluded last April 30 at the Camiguin Capitol Tennis Club in Camiguin island.

“After his latest triumph over Cortes in Cagayan de Oro, nibalik na gyod ang confidence sa bata. It’s exciting to see him (Tortal) play in the Gingoog leg kay nag-register na si Cortes nga mo-participate,” said event organizer Mario Inguito Craiz.

Richard Bautista of Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte also sustained his title-win in the City of Golden Friendship, yielding just a single ace to 10-under boys runner-up Villanueva enroute to snaring the 12-under boys diadem, 6-0, 6-1.

It was a different story, however, in the 14-under boys division as Duma Hakim Boloto of MSU, Marawi got back at his Oro leg conqueror Clyde Mari Casiño, 7-6, 6-1 in their rematch in the finals.

“Amigo na kaayo ni silang duha pero sa dula bigay todo gyod. I also expect to see them (Boloto and Casiño) in the finals of the Gingoog leg,” Craiz told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Iligan City pride Allen Gerry Manlangit won both the boys’ 16-under and 18-under titles at the expense of Auden Aaron Paduganan of Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental whom he beat twice with the scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.

The Camiguin leg, which drew a total of 62 entries, also saw Gian Deza Saavedra of Valencia City, Bukidnon duplicating the double-whammy feat of Manlangit.

Saavedra had an easy job against younger sister Zia Noelle in the 16-un der girls finals, 6-2, 6-3 before her three-set conquest of Mambajao, Camiguin bet Blessia Martinez, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 for the 18-under girls crown.
