LANAO Norte pride Brent Signmond Cortes proved that his recent exploit in Iligan City was no fluke.

Oozing with potential, Cortes sustained his double-whammy feat in Iligan by doing the same in the Marawi City leg of the ongoing 2014 Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Tournament.

Cortes repeated over Prince Najeeb Langitao of MSU, Marawi, 4-1, 4-1 in the unisex 10-under finals, then annexed the 12-under boys title after another convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ohrelle Tortal of Surigao City last Tuesday at the MSU Tennis Center.

“Being a consistent winner of this age-group tourney last year, the Surigao City bet Tortal is surely not an easy opponent. Cortes’ win over a tough rival is just a manifestation of his innate talent,” observed tournament director Mario Inguito Craiz.

Cagayan de Oro’s lady pair of Gennifer Lysandra Pagente and Janelle Carmela Llavore also continued their winning ways.

Pagente hammered out a 7-6(4),6-4 win over homecrowd favorite Sarmah Bantuas in the 14-under girls finals, before yielding to Oro compatriot Llavore in the finals of the premier 18-under girls category.

Llavore also prevailed over male counterpart Boro Marohombsar, 6-3, 6-1 in an exhibition match, highlighting the four-day tourney that attracted a total of 94 participants.

In the absence of multi-titled Francis Dominic Lanzado of Tangub City, Allen Gerry Manlangit—the Iligan City leg’s 16-under boys ruler—came to dominate the 18-under boys division at the expense of Jose Francis Suazo of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, 6-1, 6-2.

Marawi home fans were elated, however, when MSU mainstay Duma Hakim Boloto defended turf by besting Clyde Mari Casiño of Cagayan de Oro,6-4, 7-5 in the 14-under boys’ titular match.

The 16-under boys finals eventually turned into an all-Misamis Oriental affair with Carl Ubalde of Claveria surviving the full route opposite Auden Aaron Paduganan of Tagoloan, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

Now playing before home crowd, Craiz said Cortes’ performance will be put under tight watch in the Tubod leg which culminates today at the Mindanao Civic Center’s tennis courts.
