EXPECT a sizable crowd at the Xavier University gym here today as the prestigious Sea Oil CDO National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) tournament enters to its semifinal round.

On Sunday, the 5,000-seater XU gym will also play host to the playoff round of the NBTC Mindanao Division 2, featuring La Salle Iligan of coach Vianne “Gagang” Lariosa, Malaybalay City’s Bethel Academy of coach Jester “Bimbo” Adams and Butuan City’s Agusan National High School.

“The NBTC league has already established a built-in crowd in Cagayan de Oro. Bibo kini nga weekend especially nga anaa na kita karon sa semis round,” said the tourney’s Northern Mindanao organizer Arvin Martinez who announced that the venue’s main gate will be made open for the whole morning on Saturday and Sunday to provide an easy access for the spectators.

Taking the floor at 8:30 am are coach John Baisa’s Assumption Montessori School and coach Manny Diaz’s Xavier University High School, followed by the storied rivalry of coach Menes Anciado’s Corpus Christi and coach Boy Dacoco’s Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School.

Sunday morning’s top team survivor will advance in the NBTC National Finals to be held in Manila on March 6-9.

No less than NBTC program director Eric Altamirano, a PBA legend himself, will be here to witness the CDO NBTC championship game on Sunday starting at 7 pm. (LLS)
