N. Mindanao coaches attend workshop for Pambansang Palaro 2013

OZAMIZ CITY – A seminar-workshop in Sports Medicine and Sports Nutrition was held for the Northern Mindanao coaches and chaperons participating in the 2013 Palarong Pambansa (National Athletic Association Meet) set in Dumaguete City on April 14 to 20 this year.

Dr. Allan Farnazo, officer-in-charge of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Northern Mindanao, said the activity aims to equip the participants' knowledge in the prevention and management of injuries that will probably be encountered by the athletes and on the protocol of any untoward incidents during the training.

Attended by coaches and chaperons from the region’s 14 schools divisions, the workshop was also aimed to prepare them for the long training to be done on both division-based and Unified Athletic Training, which will run for 72 days, before the national event.


Discussed during the two-day workshop were topics like the Domains of Effective Coaching, Sports Ethics and Sanctions of Coaches, Eligibility of Coaches and Athletes, Orientation on Training and the Development of Training Design.

Meanwhile, about 100 athletes from the region are joining the Palarong Pambansa in various events such as Archery, Arnis, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Gymnastics, Softball, Swimming, Taekwando, Chess, Football, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Sepak Takraw and Boxing.

Farnazo said also included are Athletics, Swimming and Goal Ball for the visually impaired and mentally challenged children and youth with disability CWD/YWD. (PR)
