“AND thou wilt find them greediest of mankind for life and (greedier) than the idolaters. (Each) one of them would like to be allowed to live for a thousand years. And to live (a thousand years) would by no means remove him from the doom. Allah is Seer of what they do.” -- Qur'an 02:96

IN the July 5 news article on this paper, former mayor Vicente Emano was reported that he did not initiate the filing of the recall petition in the Commission on Election against incumbent mayor Oscar Moreno to technically step down the office and leave the City Hall.

Emano said it was his supporters, mostly barangay leaders of Cagayan de Oro City, who initiated the recall petition. He even said he did not sign the petition himself (maybe for delicadeza).

If we follow this “claim,” then obviously his “loyal” supporters only let Emano drown in pittance and shame.

Once it was thought, bearing with Emano’s age comes his wisdom from his years of experience in politics and governance, but it’s beginning to be a subject of doubt. It was also thought that he already knew when the time is ripe and when is the time to ponder more on things even that means turning the other cheek in a political battle that he seems to have a separation anxiety with.

And through his “wisdom” he could have advised well his loyalists that it is not the time yet, if they were really eager to help Emano “reclaim” his “rightful throne.” But it appears all of them were in a state of haste.

What’s in it? Maybe everything – reaffirmation that Emano still have thousands of supporters; Emano is still a dominating power in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental province; everything that Emano’s egos can have.

In a democratic society we have, everyone is welcome to serve the people, and it’s the people who decide will they choose to serve them. It is supposed to be that simple and ideal, but our recent history from how it is actually being run by the people we chose also simply betrayed us.

As soon this new recall election will end, there will always be a course of actions that will lead to next unfolding of events.

However, this recall move by the opposition leaders is a good reminder for Moreno, once again, that he must perform better than before, and he should begin mustering his wise and prudent political will because it is obvious that there are still a large number of people who are still uncomfortable with him.

Yes, similar in any aspects of life, you cannot really please everyone, but at least in a matter of creating good relations to people as a mayor and deliver the city in more progress and order is crucial in how will you remembered after your administration.
