Just being objective

FOR a head-start: this whole article is not, and will never be, in defense of those who were implicated in the roster of politicians here in Cagayan de Oro City involved in the notorious list that allegedly had benefited from the grand design of the “pork” barrel schemes in one way or another.

In some instances, there were direct and indirect assistances made by Sen. Koko Pimentel and Representatives Rufus and Maxi Rodriguez. It was when during the time of Sendong where the Rodriguezes gave donations not just to the media practitioners affected by typhoon Sendong but also to other residents as well.

Pimentel helped us, through his trusted man Marlon Tabac, pay the hospital expenses in Northern Mindanao Medical Center when my sister-in-law was diagnosed with dengue and at the time we had no extra money to spare.

On both cases, these were recommendations made to us by our peers and acquaintances and it was somehow granted.

Last week, former Senator Panfilo Lacson, who is now rehabilitation in-charge in the supertyphoon Yolanda relief and recovery efforts, released an alleged list coming from pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles and the names of Pimentel and the Rodriguez brothers were there.

With the list circulating even in social media, it implied that Pimentel and the Rodriguezes have somehow used their Priority Development Allotment Funds and channeled it through Napoles NGOs and affiliates. We are now familiar with the Napoles Non Government Organizations tales – which all were fake and it was only made as a conduit for the politicians’ PDAF to go directly to their pockets instead of its actual purpose.

But it turns out that there are many versions of the lists out there; as there are also from star witness Benhur Luy, from the National Bureau of Investigation, and another from the Department of Budget Management. The truth may run away from us because of those lists and it may bury us until we forget it.

Now, people who were implicated on the lists have their own defenses and versions, not that they totally lie, but they are bound to explain their piece to the public through media. We all know too well how greatly disgusted and flustered with anger the people had been since this whole pork issue broke out.

The names of Pimentel and the Rodriguezes can still be a tip of an iceberg, you can never tell. Time can’t even tell. We cannot directly accuse them to be laundering for their self, at the same time we can always wonder why, especially when they are known, especially to the Rodriguezes, to have done so far good in the city and charismatic to its constituents.

More puzzles and questions, we can only hope this case will be the first in history since Philippine independence to finally have justice served and someday a lesson to those who will dare to run into the office and steal people’s taxes.

Can we ever have laws with teeth in our lifetime?
