A GOOD number of Filipino-Americans in the U.S. continent expressed disappointment to news reports that the last midterm elections in the Philippines was still marred by massive vote-buying and other election frauds. Leaders of various Filipino communities were dismayed to learn that the elections which is supposed to be the last resort of the people to change the stature of the country was mishandled.

Among those hardly hit are Mindanaoans who felt sad about rampant cheating and manipulations of votes in the island. On top of these incidents, the poll activities were also featured with political killings and other incidents related therewith.

Many people from Mindanao who are residing in several areas in the United States were utterly shocked by reports about how elections were undertaken by their compatriots. Many of them were hoping things can improve the lifestyle of the Filipinos especially in their livelihood. They pointed out that honest elections could well effect change in Mindanao especially in the matter of peace and order.

Mindanaoans still believe people in the area are anxious to make a change with the full cooperation of everyone specially the national leaderships. Lots of people, for many years, expressed dissatisfaction at how the national administration managed the affairs of the island. Some of them even joined the armed groups to show their ill-feeling and dissatisfaction. The people are concerned of the future of their children who, they said could not airborne well because of disturbed peace.

Still, a lot of Mindanaoans are hopeful that peace can come to the island and improve the livelihood of the people. They look forward to improved agricultural ventures, education, communications, transportation, and a lot others which are expected to change the face of the troubled island.

The number one problem is peace and order which if settled well could propel the people for more ways to raise the standards of living. It is a matter of time, they’d say that things can be ironed out. They blamed so much the Mindanao situation that put things in slow motion if not in deep slumber or whatever since people could not move freely.

For many years people are hoping against hope that change could take place in the island. All their ambitions and aspirations are hampered by the ugly effect of disturbed peace. Their children are affected more since they could not realize their dreams of making progress unto themselves. There seems to be limits of their desire to move forward. They have to think of the future as against the disruption of peace thus fulfilling their ambitions is great hampered. They are however, hopeful things can evolve past and new beginnings will come on sight.

Many believe the future of the people defends so much on the situation of the island. Once peace and order is restored to the place, people can move freely and business could follow smoothly.

For many years, things have been stagnant because of trouble everywhere. It is only hoped that the once beautiful situation Mindanao can get back and people enjoying the bounty of peace. For decades the residents of Mindanao were deprived of their desires to live with ease and peace because of the ugly peace and order situation. Even now people are still living with fear and their movements are being curtailed because of fears.
