THE National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Northern Mindanao is pushing for "replication strategy" by engaging outstanding performing local government units (LGUs) to serve as coaches and mentors.

LGUs that produced positive results on nutrition have been recognized through the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA), the highest award on nutrition in the country.

The LGUs include Malaybalay City, Don Carlos, Libona, and Kadingilan towns in the province of Bukidnon, and Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental.

Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa DM Navales said initial steps were started last year, bringing two of the LGUs to provide technical assistance and coaching the municipalities and cities that were subjected to Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI).

Navales said LGUs for coaching and mentoring would be chosen from the top nutritionally depressed municipalities using the Operation Timbang (OPT) or weighing results as basis, while they are developing more specific set of criteria.

The initiative will be supported with a consultative forum among selected LGU mentors as well briefing and orientation of the local chief executives. (PIA)
