IN HIS fourth attempt to steal from the same company, a suspected robber was arrested by police Saturday afternoon even before he could poke his gun to a teller of a courier firm at Pabayo-Chaves streets.
Divisoria police were patrolling on foot around 1:30 p.m. near an LBC branch in the area when a suspicious looking man entered the establishment.
The suspect was identified as Herofil "Boy Solo" Olarte, 38, resident of Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro.
According to the responding police officers, they went inside the establishment when the suspect was about to commit the crime.
"He [Olarte] pulled out his firearm from his jacket. Unfortunately, he failed to execute his plan when he saw us," Henry Cay-as, Divisoria police chief, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Sunday morning.
Olarte, along with three other suspects who served as lookout, attempted to escape toward Cogon market using a Cugman-liner jeepney.
However, during the chase, PO2 Reggie Intud and PO2 Pablo Monilar cornered Olarte along JR Borja-Mortola streets. The three other suspects were able to escape.
Recovered from the suspect is a fake .25 caliber pistol, a fuze M204X2 grenade, one heat-sealed sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), three caps, eyeglasses, a black shirt, a brown sweater, a lighter, a flat screw, two identification cards, a rechargeable cable and a black bag. Cay-as believed that all of these were used in their operation.
Olarte is now detained at the Cagayan de Oro Police Office cell in Maharlika, Carmen for proper case filing.
