FOUR persons and a minor female were arrested after an estimated P330,000-worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) was confiscated by authorities in two separate buy-bust operations in Cagayan de Oro Thursday evening.

The Divisoria police said the illegal substance, which was seized from the three suspects inside a hotel here, has an estimated street value of P100,000.

The police identified the suspects as Apito Dalapo Jr., 32, resident of Macanhan, Barangay Carmen; Yuson Avito, 27, resident of Barangay Molugan, El Salvador City, and a 13-year-old girl.

Chief Inspector Henry Cay-as, Divisoria police chief, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Friday morning that the group is one of the most known dealers of illegal drugs in the city.

"We found two sachets of shabu inside the minor's pocket. I suspect these men are using her to transport the drugs to buyers," Cay-as said.

He said this group usually operates in hotels.

The family of the child has not been contacted yet.

In the meantime, she is put under the custody of City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD).

If proven guilty, the three adult suspects may face life imprisonment and a fine of P500,000 to P10 million. The charges they are facing are non-bailable.

Under aggravating circumstances of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, persons convicted of drug-related crimes can face life imprisonment if activities involve minors.

Text messages of possible customers of shabu have also been tracked through the cellular phones confiscated from the suspects by the police.

Dalapo admitted that he is an illegal drug user but never the main supplier of the drugs.

"I've been using shabu for a year now but I don't own these [drugs]. They were only left by the owner to them," he said, pointing to his companions.

However, Dalapo refused to identify the drug supplier.

Several drug paraphernalia and cash bills worth P1,800 were also recovered from the suspects.

In another anti-drug operation, the Carmen police also apprehended brothers Mark Anthony, 31, and Joark Castillion, 35, both residents of Barangay Hinaplanon in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte around 7 a.m. Thursday.

An estimated P230,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in sachets were found inside a motel near the Agora bus terminal where the Castillion brothers had checked in.

The suspects were arrested after a police asset bought four sachets of illegal drugs from them.

All the suspects were brought to the Cagayan de Oro Police Office detention cell in Barangay Carmen while appropriate charges were filed against them.
