HAD it not for the throbbing pain in his head that bothered him, a mentally challenged man admitted he would have not killed his aunt and hurt his mother in Barangay Iponan Friday morning, police said.

Errol Lumayog, 28, single, told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that his headache had triggered him to kill his own aunt and bang his mother's head using a huge stone.

Asked why he killed his aunt and slammed his mother, Errol said, "Galabad man gud akong ulo (my head was aching)."

The incident happened around 5:50 a.m. at their residence inside a housing subdivision in Iponan.

After he allegedly stabbed his aunt Emily Rodel, he chased after his mother and Rodel’s sister Delia.

Unfortunately, he caught Delia and struck her on the head, police said.

Rodel succumbed to chest stab wound. Meanwhile, Delia was immediately rushed to the hospital and later discharged.

Rodel tends the pharmacy of the Lumayogs in the subdivision they are residing.

In their initial investigation, authorities said Lumayog allegedly killed Rodel "for no apparent reason."

Senior Police Officer 3 Dominador Datahan, chief investigator at Bulua police, told Sun.Star by phone that Lumayog's family has not seen any problem that could have forced the suspect to commit the incident.

However, as told by the Lumayogs’ patriarch Teopanes Datahan, his son was interned at Consolacion Rehabilitation Center back in 2009 following a mental breakdown.

"Even then, the family said 'he [Errol] becomes violent when mood swings attack him,'" Datahan said.

He said the incident happened when Datahan left the house for work. Both Rodel and Lumayog families will formally file a murder case against Errol.

Teopanes is still discussing with his wife if they will file matricide case against their own son.

When asked if possible case will be file against him, Lumayog said, "I am willing to face them."

The suspect is now detained at the Cagayan de Oro Police Office detention cell in Barangay Carmen.
