ONE person was killed and two others were injured when a gathering of members of youth “clans” turned ugly at a beach resort in Barangay Bonbon early Monday morning.

A Carmen police report showed a stabbing incident happened around 2:35 a.m. on July 7, 2014 involving three male victims, namely, Judy Quezon, 18; Denjie Remando, 22; and John Rey Talipan, 23.

Quezon was brought to the J.R. Borja General Hospital while the other two at Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) by residents in the area for medical treatment.

Quezon, male, a resident from barangay Puntod, was stabbed in his left side abdomen. Remando, from Macanhan, barangay Carmen, was stabbed in the back.

Talipan, a resident of Sto. Niño, Agora, Barangay Lapasan, suffered a fatal stab wound in his back and was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physicians at NMMC.

Except for Talipan, the victims were believed to be members of organizations or “clans” initiated by the youth themselves using their cellular phones.

The two clans that were involved in the incident were identified as CDO Friendship and Teenage Society (TS).

The two groups were having a drinking binge in separate cottages at a beach resort in Bonbon.

At first, they were having fun by verbally bashing each other through “Fliptop,” a form of rapping.

Later, the group members had misunderstanding and turned the party into a violent confrontation.

Ronald Abaday, 22, a resident from Puntod, said Talipan was not a member of any of the clans.

Abaday said he and Talipan were close friends for about four years and they worked together at a Buko store in Osmeña street. He added Talipan was just invited to the outing.

He said they have been friends for almost 4 years. “Amigo gyud kayo mi, kasabay.”

Abaday is a new member of TS. He said that about 50 members of their clan joined the fun at the beach.

Their founder, code name “Flipsy,” according to Abaday, initiated the outing of their clan so they could bond and enjoy.

“I asked him (Talipan) to go home but he was enjoying himself listening to the ‘fliptop’. We already consumed three bottles of liquor,” said Abaday, who left ahead.

“I just got out of the beach resort, and waited for a jeepney. I was surprised to see people running out of the resort. My friend (Talipan) was stabbed. There was nothing I could do. He was boarded to a motorela, but it was too late,” Abaday said.

According to Abaday, a Peter John Pariño, 19, the one who allegedly stabbed Talipan, “naala-an niya nga kontra (mistook him for an enemy)” as the place where the incident happened was dark.

Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro asked Pariño's comment on the incident, but he refused to speak with the reporters.

After Pariño allegedly stabbed Talipan, Abaday caught him, grabbed his shirt and said, “Ayg dagan kay katong imong gi-dunggab, akong kauban (Don’t run. The one you stabbed was my friend).”

Abaday tried to stop Pariño but he escaped.

Talipan’s remains lie in state at one of the funeral parlors in the city. Cresencia Bacor, Talipan’s aunt, said the wake will be held at their home in Sto. Niño, Lapasan.
