A RESIDENT of Barangay Macasandig is in critical condition after being allegedly shot by a policeman in Cagayan de Oro City Monday night.
The victim, identified as Eduardo “Bobong” Lopez, 54, was immediately rushed to Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital after the shooting occurred around 8:15 in the evening of June 2.
Lopez sustained a gunshot wound on his nape from a 9mm caliber pistol.
The incident happened in Upper Tambo where the suspect and the victim are residents.
Recovered from the crime scene was an empty shell from a 9mm caliber pistol and a slug which were turned over to the Philippine National Police-Region 10’s (PNP-10) Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco).
Senior Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas of Macasandig police station 9 identified the suspect as Gil Ramos, 54, a policeman stationed at PNP regional office in Camp Vicente Alagar, Barangay Lapasan and also to be a close relative of Lopez.
“Naay concerned citizen nga niahni sa atong opisina [who] requested for assistance for there is a shooting incident in Upper Tambo involving a police personnel (sic)…pag-abot namo sa area nakit-an na namo didto ang crime scene naa nay daghang dugo,” Pontillas told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday.
Ramos was just inside their residence in Upper Tambo when the authorities responded.
“Since nailhan na nato siya, isa siya ka-member sa PNP ato siya gihangyo to surrender voluntarily to further prevent any damage. Nag-cooperate pud siya sa ato. Nag-surrender siya (Since we identified him [Ramos], to be a member of the PNP we urged him...)” he furthered.
Earlier reports surfaced that the incident was caused by rivalry of “pisonet” (coin-operated computers with internet connection) business operated in their respective houses.
However, Ramos denied the allegations hurled at him and called the accusations “fabricated.”
He also said that he was asleep when the shooting happened.
“Tinuod to ilang istorya pero sa ako dili ko mo-amin nga akoy gatira,” Ramos said.
Meanwhile, Ramos’ family refused to comment on the said incident.
Ramos is temporarily detained in a mini cell at the Macasandig police and will be charged with frustrated murder, Pontillas said.
A paraffin test was also conducted with the suspect Tuesday morning.
According to Pontillas, the laboratory test result will come out today, Wednesday morning.
