THESE long rotating brownouts coupled with the high temperatures this summer have been sending people angry and frustrated.

Marcella Lim, who travels a lot, finds the long brownouts a hassle. For her, it will lessen everyone’s productivity by three-folds. “I can’t do the things I need to do. And when power’s back, my planned time will get disorganized,” she clamored.

For the new graduate Lorenze Ibañez, the power outages are just too much saying, “We can’t blame Cepalco because it is just a distribution company. We need the government to step in and do it fast. I feel that Mindanao is being left in the dark when it comes to the power crisis. We need solutions. Why can’t the government support investments in renewable energy? Like solar power?” he asked.

Nelly Frias, an internet shop owner said her shop isn’t operating like the usual. And profit has dipped despite that it is summer and added, “How much more now that we’re experiencing this long, tedious rotating brownouts. I do not like this. It is outrageous. I don’t even know who to send my complaint with because I have read in the paper that Cepalco, Steag and NGCP are just going in circles of whose role is it to be doing this and that.”

On his part, Marco Santos, a carwash owner said it may seem okay with him who depends on water, but the water he uses is powered by electricity. Thus, when electricity goes out, the water also stops in few minutes. “My profit cannot even be called profit. I don’t know, the government should be doing something to end this. Seven hours is way beyond what I expected.”

Musician Kirk Petilla clamored on missing the news and other TV shows.

“Supposedly this is summer, I get to rest for two months before hitting the real world, but right now, I am not enjoying a bit of it,” he quipped. (With Froilan Gallardo)
