THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) will investigate the traffic enforcers under the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) following instances of alleged mulcting in public utility vehicles’ terminals especially in Cogon area.

Chief Inspector Lemuel Gonda, chief of the Operations and Plans Branch, assured that they will not give up weeding out corrupt policemen since it damages the image of the city police.

“Unfortunately, it was these traffic enforcers who actively violated the law,” he said.

Gonda added that they are ready to coordinate with councilor Roger Abaday in investigating these RTA officers who are allegedly engaged in corruption.

Gonda called on all policemen to shun these practices, since these do not only damage the image of the city police but also hurt the image of policemen who are serving the public well.

Abaday, it ought to be remembered, hounded the two police officers who figured in public spotlight after their arrest by the National Bureau of Investigation agents for alleged mulcting. He noted that traffic enforcers like these have long been in the service and they have been making a steady business (negosyo) out of corruption.

Abaday could not reveal the names of any implicated policemen yet as investigations are ongoing. However, he said that the complaints stemmed from alleged weekly mulcting.
