A 78-YEAR-OLD businessman was shot dead outside his house on Zayas and Moco Streets in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City early morning Monday.

Dr. West Edquila, team leader of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), said George Yu sustained three gunshot wounds in the chest and leg that killed him.

Soco found eight empty shells and four slugs at the crime scene. These were submitted for examination to determine the gun used in the shooting.

Witnesses said Yu had just opened the gate of his house to take his grandchildren to school when an unidentified person approached him. Seconds later, gunshots were heard.

The suspect then fled using a motorcycle that was parked in a store in front of the victim’s house.

Bystanders brought the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead hours after the shooting.

The Carmen police are still probing the case to determine the motive of the killing and the identities of the gunmen.

Witnesses also said the gunmen wore no masks.

The police said they would also determine previous records of the victim, including his business activities.

The victim’s neighbors, who refused to be named, told reporters that Yu was formerly engaged in selling cars during his younger days, but he was no longer in the business for a long time.

They said Yu was a silent-type person and had no known enemies in their neighborhood.

Yu’s family members refused to give statement to the media. His remains lie in state at one of the funeral parlors in the city.
