AUTHORITIES have yet to determine the identity of the group that torched several equipment of a banana processing plant in Valencia City, Bukidnon Friday night.

Captain Christian Uy, spokesman of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) in Camp Evangelista, said approximately 10 to 15 armed men forcibly entered the Alkuino banana processing warehouse owned by Sumifru in Barobo, a hinterland village in Valencia, and burned a water tank, back hoe and two packing machines.

Uy said the culprits held the plant’s security officers at gunpoint and took their company-owned firearms, communications equipment and mobile phones.

The gunmen carted away three caliber .38 revolvers, a shotgun and two internal communication radios.

Uy added that the armed men torched the heavy equipment and immediately fled.

The amount of the damaged equipment is yet to be determined, he added.

“Based on the details given by the witnesses, the perpetrators were seen carrying shotguns and wearing assorted clothes. There was a strong indication that the perpetrators are lawless elements,” Uy said.

He said troops from the 8th Infantry Battalion are still pursuing the suspects, as investigations are still ongoing.
