AMERICA’S Next Top Model (ANTM) alum Allison Harvard and one of Manila's most stylish celebrities Tim Yap shared to a pool of fashionable Kagay-anons what their brand of fashion and style are at Centrio Mall recently.

Allison and Tim are considered to be two of the Philippines' finest in the fashion landscape. To heed pieces of fashion advice from these icons, one can never go wrong.

Juggling her modeling and endorsing stints in the country, Allison first had a taste of the fashion scene here two years ago for a clothing brand.

After that, she came back to walk the runway for Filipino world-renowned fashion couturier Michael Cinco.

The multi-hyphenate Tim dabbles in TV and radio hosting, writing, entrepreneurship and styling.

Fashion inspiration

Growing up, Alli, as Ms. Harvard is fondly called, looks up to singer-songwriter Courtney Love and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.

Love and Westwood inspired her effortless grunge, punk and rock 'n roll outfit-of-the-day.

But, Alli disclosed that her biggest fashion inspiration is her daddy which explains her “tomboy” statement.

Tim, on the other hand, considers Tom Ford's shape and silhouette and Andy Warhol's craziness as his primary fashion inspiration.

Despite Tim being hugely influenced by luxury brands, he admitted he is also a fan of thrift shops, barongs and the fabrics of Mindanao.

Fashion 'faux pas'

Although Alli and Tim are great fashion icons as they are now, they admitted to have fallen victim to awkward fashion blunders.

"In junior high, I had my hair sort of coming out of the band. But they're really bad so I parted my hair. And it was like a helmet. I also masked my lips to my face with concealer and I looked terrified," Alli shared of her style that got rut when she was a kid.

"There's a point I wore an iguana stuffed toy around my neck, Picachos, Barbies, clown costumes," Tim said with a laugh, adding that these blunders are part of his growth.

"Sometimes you just have to be really confident and not be afraid. And if you think you committed a mistake, get over it. That's how you grow," Tim recounted of his experience.

Style essentials

In choosing the right outfits, Tim advised to carefully think it over and let mood dictate you whatever you want to wear for the day. But practically, he added, when you open your closet, you will see the usual basic tees.

"Every guy and girl must have a nice-fitting shirt. Then start there. You layer, then you put a jacket, you add the skirt, you add some frills, you add some accessories. At least, for guys, it's not so hard because we don't really have to accessorize that much," Tim shared.

Alli expressed that her combat boots, moisturizers and makeup are always in tow, while Tim considered V-neck shirt, suit jacket and nice-fitting jeans as his essentials.

The duo also shared quirky obsessions that brought the crowd in awe. If Tim cannot afford to leave house without wearing a scent, Alli cannot live without her backpack.

Dos and don'ts

Stylish people in the city could take the experts' cue to get away with the don'ts in fashion that will haunt you in the future.

Allison recommended to experiment with personal artistic juices and consult a style council (friends, bloggers, magazines, etc.). Most of all, one has to be real.

Tim, meanwhile, suggested to avoid impressing everybody because it will take too much time to impress the whole world.

However, it should not hinder a fashionista from pulling off the best style combo.

"Be comfortable with what you wear. Have an imagination. Have fun because everybody's watching. Give them a good show," he said.

Tim added: "It's really how we feel inside that dictates the perfectness of the outfit. Your prefect outfit happens when you're in a prefect state of mind."
