NEW YORK CITY – Cruising with town pride, Gingoognons In the United States of America (GIUSA) contingents showcased its unique artistic version of Kaliga street dancing on Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

Headed by its president, Mario Condeza, the team of dancers choreographed by Norma Seroje Pareja with Cromwell Generalao and marchers awed thousands of Filipino and American spectators during the 116th Philippine Independence Day Celebration Parade on June 1, 2014. Added marchers excitement was the participation of first ever crowned Ms. GIUSA pageant who represented Gingoognons across the tristate cluster areas.

They are Ms.GIUSA 2014 Belle Jaye Benway of Connecticut; Ms. GIUSA Tourism Jennifer Clamor of Queens New York City; and Ms. GIUSA Kaliga Natalie Condeza of Bronx New York City; and Ms. GIUSA Charter Bima Baje of New Jersey.

Out of more than a hundred organizations represented, GIUSAs presentation earned them an overall 2nd Runner Up Award on Marchers Category.

On its official media press release and statement given to the activity organizers – Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI) and Philippine Consulate in New York, GIUSA described the winning piece as: “Members wear a Kaliga-inspired costume, a colorful outfit accented with beads ensembles. Red and yellow are the dominant colors as these signify a happy and festive mood. Kaliga is a celebration of the native Gingoognons (Higaonons and Manobos) way to thank the Almighty, the great Magbabaya (God) for a productive, fruitful and healthy year.

GIUSA acronym, which literally means “united” or “made whole” in their vernacular dialect, has been true to their essence since its founding days. From its roots in Gingoog City, to the realization of their American Dreams – Gingoognons In the United States of America (GIUSA) has truly become a dynamic microcosm of Filipino-American colors.”
