FOR generations, the media, particularly newspapers, have influenced the molding of any society.

Being a local daily newspaper in Cagayan de Oro, Sun*Star is very much aware of the responsibility that it carries on its shoulders vis-à-vis the growth of the city as it emerges and gets recognized by the country and the world.

Nineteen years ago, Sun*Star Cagayan de Oro was like the city. And compared to a person starting to chart one’s fate, Sun*Star was trying to make a mark in a city undiscovered just yet.

Now, as it opens its doors for another year, another journey to its 20th anniversary, a milestone the paper’s staff look forward – leading the people of Cagayan de Oro through news, its story, and through information it shares every day.

As the city thrives, Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro has, too.

Nineteen years of credible, relevant, and engaging news. With its partners and advertisers, Sun.Star will further embrace the responsibility of giving news that’s important to you.

And behind a strong, empowered and soaring daily newspaper are people who have dedicated themselves to be a medium, a tool for those who are not heard, yet, knowing that there are two sides of a story to tell.

Editor in Chief Grace Albasin, Super Balita Managing Editor Jenefer Besere, Sports Editor Lynde L. Salgados, copy editor Jigger Jerusalem—together, they lead the newsroom in giving out stories that are timely and accurate.

The front liners Alyssa Clenuar, Mario Manlupig, Jr., and yours truly, strive to report what you, our readers, need to know.

Giving life to our stories through his pictures is Joey Nacalaban, our photojournalist. And making sure the paper is dressed in its best everyday are layout artists Nazell Ubanan and Johnny Lumod.

For ensuring that the needs of the editorial are provided for by the management, Ailyn Corrales is it.

Atty. Erwin G. Nunez, acting general manager of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro and the operations head of Sun.Star Management, aptly put the three words the paper upholds while its team does its work during Friday's cocktails with the paper's advertisers.

“Credible: Sun*Star’s way of journalism all over the country from Baguio down to Davao has been known for giving credible news to our readers. Relevant: relevant to the local community. Helping officials to promote projects and for folks to form opinions on a certain topic. And engaging: being a local community newspaper, we cannot separate ourselves from the community. We have been telling you about local news, news that happened right in front of us in different aspects. This is our way of being part of the community.”

Being a community newspaper, Sun*Star Cagayan de Oro, along with its Bisayan counterpart Super Balita Cagayan de Oro, intends to reflect Cagayan de Oro and northern Mindanao including also the western part of the island in our pages in the years to come.
