DISCUSSION on the outstanding qualities of Venerable Ignacia is incomplete without reference to the extraordinary virtues of Mary, the Mother of God. As we look into Mary’s stance we see that Mary “pondered all things in her heart” (Lk 2:19, 51).

Such pondering is reflected in the life of Mother Igancia where her restless heart needs quenching element. Her restlessness propelled her “to seek beyond what society dictated. She did not stifle nor escape from this restless feeling. She sought the advice of someone more experienced that she was”.

In her devotion to the Blessed Mother, Venerable Ignacia intimated into the depth of her own feelings so that as she grasped the meaning of Mary’s posture she held on to it. “She found an appropriate model in the Blessed Mother.” St. Luke describes Mary, thus: “Mary of Nazareth, when troubled by the angel’s greeting pondered its meaning” (1:28). Truly Mary’s eloquent silence had a response to the message of the angels and the shepherd, thus: “Mary treasured up all these events and pondered them” (Bernard Haring, CSSR).

Indeed Venerable Ignacia’s pondering heart reflects Mary’s disposition. In her book, “A Lamp to Our Path” S. Anicia Co, RVM wrote: “In Mary’s attitude of pondering, Mother Ignacia found an answer to her restlessness. As she strove to imbibe this pondering spirit, Mother Ignacia became more aware of her own feelings and moods. She grew in discernment as he continued to maintain a recollected spirit. She learned how to observe the events in her life and probe their deeper meaning.”

Much can be learned from Mother Ignacia’s pondering heart vis a vis the pondering heart of Mary. One who ponders observes silence and in this silence God speaks to the soul. Good listening may surface as a good listener speaks in an eloquent silence which is openness to the Word of God fully dedicated to living the truth.

A testimony of Graces received

(from “AngUliran” the Official newsletter of the National Movement for the beatification of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo)

This is a testimony of a favor for the healing of Sebastian Rufus Tan, 11 years old, of brain tumor cancer on April 12, 2013 granted with God’s grace through the intercession of Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo. Sebastian or Basti was diagnosed with the case of medulloblastoma on February 22, 2012 and took six sessions of chemotherapy at Medical City.

The Novena prayer for the beatification of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo and a prayer on God’s healing compassion which cited the intercession of Venerable Ignacia was prayed everyday by the undersigned and many times by Basti.

Way back in the 1990’s, S. Isabelita Riego de Dios, RVM, requested me to help promote the beatification of Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo. She sent me a bagful of leaflets and brochures but I was busy with my professional career and was unable to do it. My devotion to Mother Igancia was revived during the aforementioned illness of Basti. With all humility, I submit this testimony for whatever use it may be.
