IN A couple of days, we will be celebrating one of the most special days in our lives, and that is Mother’s Day!

Mothers play one of the most important, if not the most significant, roles in our lives, hand in hand with our fathers, who molded us to be what we are now.

We might not have the perfect mother, but she is always there to lend a helping hand, to guide us, to teach us, to give us hope, and to make sure we reach our potentials as individuals.

As a parent myself, I have seen the struggles and pains, the joys plus the laughter and tears of a mom.

I grew up with a very loving, caring, and wonderful mother and she was always there for all of us.

As a health professional, I have assisted, helped, and observed the various moms from all walks of life, both here and abroad.

I saw their struggles on how to make ends meet, their daily activities in caring for their children from sunrise to sunset and even in the middle of the night, waking up early and sleeping late just to ensure their children get the best of everything.

Also, they are busy preparing three meals and the snacks in between daily, washing and ironing clothes, helping them out with their assignments, sending them to school, medical and dental appointments and so much more.

I guess a lot of us have seen the video in one of those social media sites recently where the applicants were interviewed for a 24-hour job, with no pay.

All of them were amazed and in disbelief, later shocked and surprised only to find out that it was for a mother’s role!

That’s how important a mother is.

For myself, I have seen the physical, mental, and psychological endurance, strength and patience of my mother and how she raised the six of us to adulthood, and beyond.

It was like a non-stop activity all day and night, patiently and dutifully fulfilling and achieving her multi-tasking role and responsibility not only to her children but also to our dad.

My mom got married at the tender age of 18, a provincial lass from Mambajao who was still in school when she got home and found out that her future husband, my dad, a Manila boy together with his mother and some siblings were at home waiting for her!

Needless to say, it was fixed marriage but it turned out to be a good one, I should say.

For without them, I won’t be around, right? So are my other sisters and brothers.

Tragedy struck and two of our siblings left us early in the prime of their lives.

Undeniably, it was absolutely and obviously painful to see both my mom and dad go through the agony and hurt, twice and just within two years. That was way back in the late 80’s.

On the brighter side, my mom was an epitome of beauty in her youth and still is today, even at her mature age of 85.

She is lovable and caring not only to us, her children, but also to her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

One can just see the sparkle in her eyes every time she is in the company of all of us.

I am sure she is having a hard time giving equal attention and devotion to the young ones who will always compete for their grandma’s/great grandma’s interest!

Looking back, I became what I am today because my mom was always there for me.

Her love was unconditional. She continuously and constantly guided me in all my endeavors, be it big or small.

I made some wrong and bad choices and decisions in my life but they were learning experiences for me.
My mom was there to help me right the wrong with no expectations or resentments, even now continuing to shower me with her endless and nurturing love and support.

God is truly awesome to bless me, my family, and my siblings with a mom beyond compare, a mom who’s been with us through thick and thin, through all the hardships, failures, and successes in life.

But above all, her presence, advice, and never-ending affection and devotion to all of us serves as an inspiration to all our family members and friends.

To the greatest mom in the entire universe, Happy Mother’s Day!

May the Almighty God continue to bless and shower you with good health and a happy life as we journey together through each day under His care and guidance.

We love you very much!
