IN HER 27 years in the show business, singer Regine Velasquez’s journey has been a hard one.

Yet, the song bird was able to uphold every entertainer’s mantra, which is “the show must go on.”

Giving birth to her son, celebrating her silver anniversary twice because her voice faltered in the first anniversary concert, juggling work and family life and according to her, losing weight in time for the "Bet ng Bayan" Show are what she thinks are her life’s greatest dilemmas.

“Right now, most challenging is to lose weight. It’s not easy when people expect you to look this way, have this size, especially I’m not young anymore, I gave birth. Mahirap talaga yung mag-lose weight. I’m even blessed kasi I have a small face,” Velasquez told reporters over lunch on Friday.

Indeed, the career she chose is not an easy one. But more than looking her best for the show, Velasquez wants to be healthy and fit.

“Siguro lang, it’s me putting pressure on myself, because maybe more than anything, the fans just want to see and hear me sing. Maybe it’s up to me to accept that by and by. Pero hanggang kaya ko pa, ipu-push ko pa. And I also want it for health reasons naman,” Velasquez said.

Cagayan de Oro media representatives were given the privilege to engage in a light chitchat over lunch with the Asia’s Songbird.

Not the first time she came to visit Cagayan de Oro, Regine shared how she thinks the city has improved.

“Kagay-anons have always been welcoming since the last time I came. That was quite some time ago, and you know, Cagayan de Oro has changed. Its improvement is massive. Change naman is not necessarily bad, I mean, it’s inevitable. I’m happy for you guys,” she added.

Regine Velasquez performed at Centrio Ayala Garden for the Kapuso Fans Day Friday afternoon, GMA’s participation for the Kagay-an Festival this year.

“I’ll be singing a couple of songs, there will be games for them, may singing at lipsync contest din. It will really be a fun afternoon,” she said.

At present, the city is the 9th venue of GMA’s Kapuso Fans day with the Songbird that was held at Davao, Dagupan, Vigan, Boracay, Iloilo, Batangas, Bohol and Cebu.
