FOODIES in Cagayan de Oro City will be glad to know that the renowned Davao-based Backyard Burgers will expand here next month.

“Backyard Burgers will open its first branch in CdeO at Punchbowl, Corrales in August, in time for the city fiesta,” revealed John Manuel Gadi, owner of Backyard Burgers.

Proudly Dabawenyo-owned and operated, Backyard Burgers aims to popularize gourmet burgers with a home-made taste in the city.

“We hope to be called a Cagayan de Oro favorite since we will be using local ingredients,” Gadi added.

August of last year, Backyard Burgers stayed in the city for 10 days selling an average of 4,000 burgers for the duration of their short stay here.

Last week, they held another “Patilaw sa CdeO” roadshow selling 500 to 800 burgers every day.

From July 1 to July 6, Backyard Burgers (#BBCDO) served burgers to Kagay-anons making them crave for more.

“We were swamped. The welcome was overwhelming for us. We are definitely very thankful to everyone who stayed in spite of the long waiting hours,” Gadi said.

The road show is a prelude to their opening in August 2014. The location will be at Corrales, in partnership with the owners of Punchbowl, one of city’s high-traffic venues.

Going for a modern day look, the construction of their pilot branch will start next week and is expected to be furnished in months’ time.

Long queues, long waiting hours

Social media posts and blogs raised the issue of the long queues at Backyard Burgers when they temporarily setup shop here last week, implying that since it was their second road show, they should have come prepared and with better service.

Admitting that some orders took an hour or more to prepare, Backyard Burgers staff implemented the fast lane in their last two days here which they will continue to have once the pilot branch opens.

According to Gadi, they are working on solutions to improve once they open, however, the small space might not allow it yet. In the future, a bigger space will guarantee a shorter preparation time.

“Currently, we are discussing possible options, we will adjust so we can to attend to everyone,” he added.

2 more branches

“We plan to stay for good, and to open two more branches in the future,” Gadi furthered.

Their two other branches will be in the uptown while the other branch location is still to be discussed.

Backyard Burgers was launched in November 2012, serving homemade burgers in their two branches in Davao.
