Over 500 HIV cases recorded in January

THE Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday that 536 new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases were tallied in January.

This was 20 percent higher compared to the same period last year's 448 cases, according to the January 2015 HIV/Aids Registry Report.

Results of the survey conducted earlier this month showed that Senate President Franklin Drilon surpassed the President, registering a 49 percent approval and 44 percent trust scores.

Massuer detained for ‘raping’ Japanese national

CEBU CITY -- A massage therapist was detained after he was accused of raping his customer, a Japanese national, Wednesday night in Barangay Mabolo, this city.

The therapist, Alegio Labisto, 23, denied the allegation, but a case for acts of lasciviousness was filed against him.

(Updated) A CADET of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Lakandula Class of 2015 was not able to join the graduation rites on Thursday due to a "minor violation", a police official said.

PNPA spokesperson Chief Inspector Richie Yatar said cadet refused to identify the cadet and the violation committed. The graduating cadet however will still be able to get his diploma in April.

In an effort to pull off the transformation, Facebook Inc. is opening Messenger so outside programmers can build features tailored for the service. By the end of April, Messenger will also be adding the ability to display store receipts and shipping information to help consumers keep track of their interactions with merchants and other businesses.

President of Yemen flees by sea amid rebel advance in south

SANAA, Yemen — President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi fled Yemen by sea Wednesday as Shiite rebels and their allies moved on his last refuge in the south, captured its airport and put a bounty on his head, officials said.

The departure of the close U.S. ally and the imminent fall of the southern port of Aden pushed Yemen further toward a violent collapse. It also threatened to turn the impoverished but strategic country into another proxy battle between the Middle East's Sunni powers and Shiite-led Iran.
