De Lima not interested in Comelec post-A A +A
Wednesday, September 3, 2014
JUSTICE Secretary Leila de Lima said Wednesday she has yet to figure out what would be her next "calling" after she leaves her post in June 2016.
In a chance interview, de Lima said she is not eyeing to succeed fellow poll lawyer Sixto Brillantes as chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), who earlier endorsed her for the post.
Brillantes will retire from the Comelec on February 2, 2015.
"I learned that he's been saying that. Well, it's just chairman Brillantes' dream," de Lima said.
De Lima, daughter of the late Comelec Commissioner Vicente de Lima, defended key politicians in past elections.
One of her famous clients is Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, who was cheated in the 2007 elections allegedly by the Arroyo administration.
De Lima joined the government in 2008 as chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) before President Benigno Aquino III appointed her to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in 2010. (Sunnex)
