UNSEATING President Benigno Aquino III through impeachment was a failure but the fight for truth and accountability over the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and pork barrel system continues, an anti-corruption advocate said Wednesday.

Former Manila Councilor Greco Belgica, one of the anti-DAP petitioners at the Supreme Court (SC), called on his co-advocates in the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives to just file cases against those who abused people's money through DAP and the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

"What needs to be pursued is what the Court held in both the pork barrel system decision and the DAP decision. That is to hold accountable for possible criminal, administrative and civil liabilities all who continue to utilize the pork barrel system and those who abused DAP," he said.

Two out of the three impeachment raps relied on the SC decision against the DAP, Aquino's purported economic stimulus package which was found illegal for improper use of savings and inter-branch transfer of appropriations.

Aquino allies however believe there was no culpable violation of the Constitution on his part, pushing them on Tuesday to shot down the complaints for lack of substance.

Malacañang hailed the decision as it denied influencing congressmen in dismissing the charges against the president.

Militant groups meanwhile held a protest in Mendiola, which is near the presidential palace in Manila, to condemn the "hasty murder"of the impeachment complaints.

“Aquino should not celebrate the death of the impeachment raps, for it signals and harkens the commencement of the people’s call for his ouster,” said League of Filipino Students spokesperson Charlotte Velasco.

The House is expected to send the complaints to the archives after the justice committee submit its report to the plenary in the coming days. (Sunnex)
