MALACANANG urged on Saturday Filipinos participating in the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) ice bucket challenge to just make their donations to Filipinos confined at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) due to this disease.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, who was also challenged and accepted it, said she would donate to patients who have ALS confined at the state-run hospital.

She said she learned that there were a number of patients lingering from ALS at PGH from Education Secretary Armin Luistro and Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman, who both were challenged and donated for these patients, instead of giving the money to Washington-based ALS Association, which started the ice bucket challenge.

ALS Association has launched a month ago the ice bucket challenge to seek for funds, which could be used on a research to look for treatments and a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease. Donations reportedly reached over $100 million since the ice bucket challenge was launched.

While she would also make a donation, Valte said she would also accept the ice bucket challenge.

A television news anchor challenged Valte, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda and Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. to dump ice on their heads or donate.

Valte said she was not aware if Lacierda and Coloma would accept the challenge. (SDR/Sunnex)
