Monday, August 18, 2014
TWO persons became instant millionaires after giving information to the police on the whereabouts of controversial businessman Delfin Lee and alleged communist rebel leader Grayson Naogsan.
In a simple ceremony held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City, PNP chief Alan Purisima awarded P2 million to the informant, who led to the arrest of one of Lee, and P3.2 million to the tipster of Naogsan.
The two awardees personally accepted their cash reward, which came from the PNP Confidential Intelligence Fund, but their identities were not revealed for their protection and security.
Naogsan is an alleged political officer of the Abra Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee and an alleged member of the Kilusang Larangang Guerilya Maco ICRC and the East Chico Line Team.
He was arrested on murder charges by the authorities in Baguio City in November 2012, while Lee, who is facing syndicated estafa cases, was arrested in a hotel in Ermita, Manila last March.
“May this inspire others who know where other wanted persons are hiding to do the same. Report to us through twitter, text, email, or other means the location of these fugitives so that we can arrest them. It pays to help in making our communities safe,” Purisima said. (Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
