3rd Run for Road Safety

The MAPFRE Insular Run for Road Safety is a community sports event that advocates stronger public participation in ensuring safer roads for all, whether one is a commuter, pedestrian, driver or law enforcer.

Road safety is an important public health issue worldwide. The Global Status Report on Road Safety published by the World Health Organization notes that about 1.2 million people die each year due to road traffic crashes. Road traffic injuries were also cited as the leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29.

Since 2010, MAPFRE’s corporate social responsibility arm, Fundacion MAPFRE, has been in partnership with the Department of Education to promote road safety awareness through its inclusion as a topic in the school curriculum. Learning materials and teaching aids that teach correct road safety practices have reached over 600,000 children enrolled in various public elementary schools in the Philippines.

To join MAPFRE Insular’s Run for Road Safety 2014, log on to or check its social media page at Upon registration, participants are strongly encouraged to sign the Road Safety Pledge form available online and make a commitment to keep Philippine roads safe for all. (PR)
