Fil-German athlete tops anew in Ironkids

CEBU -- Filipino-German Arno Baetz ruled anew in the 13 to 14 years old male category with 31:32 elapsed time during the Alaska Milk Ironkids Triathlon at Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa on Saturday.

Yuan Chiongbian placed second at 32:13, while Brent Valelo of Caloocan City once again landed in the third place at 32.42.

In the female division of the same age category, Quezon City's Nicole Danielle Eijansantos finished first with 34:47 elapsed time. She was in the fifth place in last year's 11 to 12 years old category.

Second place Lauren Justin Plaza of Binan was a minute and seven seconds behind at 35:54, followed by Aaliyah Mataragnon of Cebu at 36:25.

The Alaska Milk Ironkids Triathlon was divided into four waves: Wave 1 consists of categories 11 to 12 years old and 13 to 14 years old, while Wave 2 consists of relay category 1 and long distance play. Wave 3 is for triathletes from six to eight years old and nine to 10 years old, and Wave 4 for relay category 1.

A total of 144 participants joined this year.

The race, which is the local version of the international Ironkids triathlon series, aims to promote health among the young through proper nutrition and an active lifestyle. (Sunnex)
