Napoles transferred to regular jail in Taguig-A A +A
Tuesday, July 29, 2014
UNDER heavy guard, detained alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Napoles was transferred late Monday night to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, a police official said Tuesday.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Chief Reuben Theodore Sindac said the convoy of Napoles arrived in the Taguig jail around 11 p.m.
He said Napoles is staying in a regular cell together with other inmates.
Napoles has been detained since July 2013 at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, for the alleged serious illegal detention of Benhur Luy, the main whistleblower in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.
Aside the non-bailable case filed at a Makati City court, Napoles faces multiple plunder and graft charges at the Sandiganbayan. Her co-accused are Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.
Napoles allegedly funneled the lawmaker's PDAF to her bogus non-government organizations in exchange for multi-million peso kickback.
Earlier, Sindac said keeping Napoles exclusively at the police training camp in Laguna was straining the PNP's purse. He said the police agency was spending P150,000 for keeping Napoles at Fort Sto. Domingo. On top of that, the PNP is spending P120,000 every time Napoles goes out of the camp to attend court hearings in Makati City and Quezon City.
The Sandiganbayan earlier ordered for Napoles' transfer to the Taguig jail. (Sunnex)
